Rina Kumar joined Penn State in 2014 as the assistant project director for the human resource and payroll project. Through this project, Penn State seeks to transition from its current home-grown systems to a third-party vendor solution. The objective of the project is to transform the human resources function to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, leveraging information technology.
Rina will lead a project team that includes Penn State staff and external consultants and actively engage with the campus community in the transition to the new system.
Rina is a native of India and graduated in Economics from Delhi University. Subsequently, she obtained an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. In the MBA program, she was a merit scholar.
Rina has over twenty years of work experience in higher education, global financial services and communications companies. In India, she has managed key relationships with leading Fortune 500 companies such as Unilever, SmithKline Beecham, Reebok and Ford. She was General Manager for a multinational financial services company, where she led several technology implementations for improving operational efficiency and customer service. In the United States, she has worked at Intuit Inc., where she managed an award-winning project that redesigned business processes to enhance customer service.
Prior to joining Penn State, Rina was at Cornell University where she worked on multiple projects, such as the implementation of a financial information system and an application streamlining initiative. More recently, she worked on the implementation of an HR-payroll system, and coordinated closely with the campus community to successfully cut-over to the new system. Her experience in higher education with an HR-payroll system implementation will be valuable for Penn State’s human resources and payroll project.
Rina likes to hike, swim, explore national parks and travel. Rina’s spouse is a faculty member in the Smeal College of Business, and they have one son.
